Traders protest against load shedding in PoK 14.1.2018 General News
Traders in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), blocked the Neelum Valley road and burnt tyres to show their anger against load shedding and damage of transformers in the area.The protest was called by the Anjuman Tajiran (trade union) in Muzaffarabad as local businessmen have been facing huge losses due to severe power cuts.The protesters raised slogans against the Water and Power Development Authority and Prime Ministers of PoK and Pakistan.The police tried to disperse the protesters forcibly, causing major tension in the area.A protester said, “We have requested the concerned authority, but they are not listening. Since the PML (N) government has come to power, our problems increased manifold”.It is ironic that the hub of hydropower generation, PoK suffers long and persistent power outages, ranging from four to 12 hours.As per an estimate, PoK produces roughly 1,500 MW electricity through hydropower but fails to get its total requirement of 400 MW.The people of PoK blame .

IOBOA backs move to set off accumulated loss against share premium account 13.1.2018 All Finance Stories
Indian Overseas Bank Officers’Association (IOBOA), the officers’ trade union in IOB, has extended support to the managements decision of balance sheet management by setting off the accumulated loss with the share premium amount. The move is aimed at giving out a fair, true and clearer picture of bank’s balance sheet, which will infuse confidence in the minds of investors, it said. “The move will also benefit the customer and it is shortening the time limit for dividend delcaratiion by the bank as we are able to see the light at the end of the Tunnel with regard to earning profit,” said the organisation in a statement. It may be noted that the Bank’s move to use the share premium account of Rs 76.50 billion to set off the accumulated losses to the tune of Rs 69.79 billion raised the eye-brows of many.”This is a prudent and wisse move in cleansing the Balance Sheet and to have a true picture of the financial poisition of the Bank,” said the Association. Case against Vairamuthu over alleged remarks on Hindu Goddess 13.1.2018 General News
A case was today registered against popular Tamil film lyricist Vairamuthu for his alleged remarks against a Hindu Goddess recently. A row had erupted after the national award-winning lyricist had reportedly made the comments against Andal, a Hindu Goddess, at a function in Rajapalayam. Police said a case was registered against Vairamuthu based on a complaint from a Hindu Munnani functionary, adding, investigation is on. The complainant Suri stated that devotees of Goddess Andal were hurt by the poet’s remarks, police said. Meanwhile at Coimbatore, a group, led by Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar of Manavala Maamuni Mutt, staged a demonstration near a temple demanding that Vairamuthu tender an apology. They threatened to go on an indefinite fast if he did not do so by January 16.
