THOUSANDS OF DALIT AND ADIVASI ACTIVISTS LATHI CHARGED IN BIHAR

ACTION ALERT

THOUSANDS OF DALIT AND ADIVASI ACTIVISTS LATHI CHARGED

 CONDEMN THE HEINOUS ACTION

BY

 NITISH GOVERNMENT in BIHAR

More than 5000 people from various districts in Bihar fighting for the implementation of their legitimate rights marched to the Chief Minister’s residence raising four important and genuine demands. Rather than paying heed to the demands of these non violent protestors, the State brutally lathi charged and arrested thousands of women and youth.
The rally called by Jan Mukti Sangharsh Vahini, Parchadhari Sangharsh Vahini, Kosi Nav Nirman Manch, Lok Sangharsh Samiti, Lok Sangharsh Morcha, Dalit Shakti Sanghatan and Parivartan Jan Andolan demanded –
1. The implementation of the Forest Rights Act 2006 and the reclamation of the   land  by the Adivasis and the other forest dwelling communities be accepted.
2. Allotment of the land acquired by the government through ceiling, bhoodan; or any other government land to lakhs of patta [only on paper] holding farmers.
3. Complete rehabilitation of the Kosi Flood victims in a time bound frame.
4. Implementation of the rehabilitation policy to the families displaced due to the change in the course of the river or due to other reasons.

Thousands of protestors have been under arrest since today morning at 7.30 am in different police stations across Patna.

The action by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is condemnable and it is an irony that he launches a campaign for special status to Bihar without even having the minimum decency to listen to his own people. There is an urgent need for many calls to be made at different police stations apart from registering our protest to the CM.

Intercultural Resources is a forum for research and political intervention on issues related to the impacts and alternatives to destructive development. Our effort draws upon the social, cultural, material and intellectual resources that have been generated in the course of dialogues between people of different cultures on questions of social justice, development and self-rule. We are of the view that dialogue can sustain plurality and open possibilities for recovery of the ground lost on account of inter-cultural alienation, which is manifest in a variety of forms of violence that we encounter everyday at different levels of social life.
