In its Water Operation Plan 2012-2020, ADB has intended to intensify IWRM processes in member countries and calls for further evolution of water governance frameworks in each country, supported by legislation, and with local implementation facilitated by river basin organisations. ASEAN mulls assistance for Myanmar Rohingya

 

Southeast Asian nations are considering humanitarian assistance for Muslim-minority Rohingya facing ‘pain and suffering’ in Myanmar, the head of the ASEAN regional bloc said on Wednesday. Association of Southeast Asian Nations secretary general Surin Pitsuwan said the bloc should be “part of solution to the problem” that escalated in June with a bloody clash that displaced around 60,000 people, mostly Rohingya. http://southasiarevealed.com/2012/08/09/asean-mulls-assistance-myanmar-rohingya/

‘Claim for mining lease not fundamental right’

The Supreme Court of India has ruled that no private company can claim a right for mining leases and upheld the 2005 decision of the Jharkhand government and the Centre cancelling nine such leases. Among those whose mining leases were cancelled included Monnet Ispat and Energy Ltd, which had signed an MoU with the state government in 2003 to set up an integrated steel plant in Hazaribagh district with a proposed investment of Rs 1,400 crore. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Claim-for-mining-lease-not-fundamental-right/articleshow/15219978.cms?

 

 

SEZ: Govt gives time to 33 developers for executing projects

Seeking more time for developing projects and surrendering them reflects lack of enthusiasm in the tax-free enclaves

New Delhi, July 15 (PTI) The government has given more time to 33 special economic zone developers, including Uttam Galva Steels Ltd, Unitech Infracon and GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, to execute their projects. At a meeting on July 6, the Board of Approval (BoA), headed by Commerce Secretary S R Rao, also allowed three SEZ developers to surrender their projects.
