IROM SHARMILA’S FAST (SINCE YEAR 2000) IS IGNORED AND NEGLECTED FROM
THE SIDE OF GOVERNMENT. CIVIL SOCIETIY HAS NOT DONE MUCH ON THIS NON
VIOLENT PROTEST OF IROM AND GENERAL PUBLIC IS NOT AWARE ABOUT IROM’S
FAST WHICH HAS BECOME WORLD’S LONGEST FAST.
AFSPA HAS ALREADY BEEN REGARDED AS DRACONIAN LAW BY VARIOUS
NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS AND IT HAS BEEN OBSERVED THAT
SUCH TYPE OF INHUMANE LAWS ARE NOT ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS BUT ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING ANGER AMONG THEM AND
NEGATIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS.
NOW, VOLUNTEERS OF SAVE SHARMILA HAVE DECIDED TO SPREAD PUBLIC
AWARENESS ABOUT IROM SHARMILA AND TO GENERATE SUPPORT FROM PUBLIC.
THEREFORE A JOURNEY FROM SRINAGAR TO IMPHAL IS PLANNED TO SPREAD THE
MESSAGE OF LOVE & PEACE AND TO DEMAND JUSTICE FOR IROM SHARMILA.
THE JOURNEY WILL START ON 16TH OCT FROM SRINAGAR AND WILL REACH IMPHAL
TILL 26th OCT VIA JAMMU, LUDHIANA, PANIPAT, NEW DELHI, ALIGARH,
KANPUR, LUCKNOW, VARANASI, RANCHI, PATNA, MALDA TOWN, KOLKATA,
GUWAHATI AND DIBRUGARH. AROUND 10 STATES WILL BE COVERED DURING THIS
4500 Km. OF JAN KARWAN.

About Intercultural Resources
Intercultural Resources is a forum for research and political intervention on issues related to the impacts and alternatives to destructive development. Our effort draws upon the social, cultural, material and intellectual resources that have been generated in the course of dialogues between people of different cultures on questions of social justice, development and self-rule.
We are of the view that dialogue can sustain plurality and open possibilities for recovery of the ground lost on account of inter-cultural alienation, which is manifest in a variety of forms of violence that we encounter everyday at different levels of social life.
